Nothing fills a December living room like carols played live, even wobbly ones. This free collection gathers the 15 most beloved Christmas melodies in the public domain – from Jingle Bells and Silent Night to Joy to the World and the hypnotic Carol of the Bells – and arranges every one of them for beginner hands: five-finger positions, a single-note left hand, and printed fingerings on every phrase. Start in early December and you can play for the family by Christmas Eve.

Level 1 – First Carols (Free Download)
Five carols that fit under five fingers. The left hand plays single whole and half notes, and the right hand stays in one home position per phrase – if you can find middle C, you can start tonight. It opens with Jingle Bells, which was written for Thanksgiving in 1857 and later became the first song ever performed in space.

Why These Arrangements Work for Beginners
- One five-finger position per phrase. Where a carol needs a sixth note, the score shows the classic finger-substitution trick instead of a stretch – it is printed right on the notes.
- Single-note left hand. No chords anywhere: the bass plays one note at a time, from the slow whole notes under Jingle Bells to the swaying 6/8 pairs of Silent Night and the driving bass of Carol of the Bells.
- Almost no black keys. Fourteen carols use zero or one accidental. You get the full sound of Christmas without reading thickets of sharps.

Is this Christmas sheet music really free?
Yes. Level 1 downloads directly with no email. Levels 2 and 3 are also free – we send the PDFs by email so we can follow up with practice tips. Every carol is in the public domain, so you can print, copy and perform them freely at church, school or home.
What level of pianist is this for?
True beginners. Level 1 needs only five fingers and single bass notes. Level 3 is “advanced beginner”: still a single-note left hand, but with dynamics, position shifts and one gloriously hypnotic ostinato. If you can play from our main beginner library, you can play all fifteen.
Can I really learn these before Christmas?
Starting in early December, yes. Each Level 1 carol takes most beginners a few days using the 3-step plan in the PDF: right hand alone, left hand alone, hands together. Pick two or three favorites rather than all fifteen, and play them well.
Why is Carol of the Bells labeled “Shchedryk”?
Because that is the original: a Ukrainian new-year song by Mykola Leontovych, premiered in 1916 and brought to Carnegie Hall in 1921. Our arrangement uses Leontovych’s public-domain original. The English “Carol of the Bells” lyrics added in 1936 are still under copyright, which is why no honest free PDF includes them.
