Free Piano Sheet Music for Kids: First 10 Songs

Free Piano Sheet Music for Kids

The first 10 songs every child wants to play – Twinkle Twinkle, Old MacDonald, The Itsy Bitsy Spider and more – printed in extra-large notation for young eyes, with a finger number on every note and a practice plan parents can actually follow.

Most beginner books are engraved for adult eyes. This free collection takes the 10 songs kids already know by heart and prints them BIG: oversized staves, one hand at a time, a single bass note in the left hand, and the finger number sitting right on top of every note. A child who can find middle C can start today – and because every melody has words, they can sing along while they play.

Why Big Notes Matter

  • Young eyes track large print. The staves are engraved a third larger than standard – the same reason early readers use big letters.
  • A finger number on every note. Your child never has to guess which finger goes where; the substitution tricks used by real teachers are printed right in the score.
  • Songs they already know. When the tune lives in their head, they hear their own mistakes and fix them – that is the fastest feedback loop in music.
  • One hand at a time. Every song has a 3-step plan: right hand alone, left hand alone (single notes only), then together.

Does the Bench Fit Your Child?

Small pianists on adult benches end up with wrists below the keys and dangling feet – the two fastest ways to make practice uncomfortable. Before the first lesson, check the seat height with our bench height calculator and read the kids bench sizing guide by age. If their feet swing free of the floor, a pedal extender plants them – and our kids bench picks cover every age and budget.

Frequently Asked Questions

What age is this collection for?

Roughly ages 4 to 10, with a parent nearby for the youngest. The songs need no reading fluency: the oversized notes, printed fingers and familiar tunes carry a child who has never seen sheet music before.

Is it really free?

Yes – we send the PDF by email so we can follow up with practice tips. Every song is in the public domain (including Happy Birthday, free since 2016), so you can print copies for the whole family or a classroom.

My child cannot read music yet. Will this work?

That is exactly who it is for. Each song lists every note with where it sits on the keyboard and which finger plays it, and the melodies are songs your child can already sing – the ear leads and the eyes follow.

What order should we learn the songs in?

They are sequenced: Hot Cross Buns (song 3) is the classic first-day win, then Twinkle and Mary. Save Old MacDonald and The Itsy Bitsy Spider for weeks two and three – they add pickups and the 6/8 sway.

When your child outgrows these ten, the full 25-piece beginner library continues level by level – and the seasonal Christmas carols collection makes December practice easy to sell.
