The story behind Twinkle Twinkle
This beloved melody was first published as a French folk song, Ah! vous dirai-je, maman, around 1761. Mozart wrote twelve variations on it in 1785 (K. 265), which helped make the tune world-famous, and the English lyrics came in 1806 from a poem by Jane Taylor called The Star. The same melody also carries the Alphabet Song and Baa, Baa, Black Sheep, which is why it feels instantly familiar to every child.
