The Right Bench for a Roland FP-30X: Key Height, Stand and Seat Range

Player seated on a low sofa at a slab digital piano on an X-stand at home - Benchoom

Roland doesn’t publish the key height of the FP-30X, so choosing a Roland FP-30X bench starts with a tape measure. Owners who measured on the KSC-70 stand, which doesn’t adjust, report key tops near 28.5 to 28.9 in.

By the formula our calculator uses, most adults from 5’0″ to 6’4″ land at a seat of about 18.2 to 20.8 in on that stand. If your keys measure 31 in on an X-stand, add about 2 to 2.5 in. Choose a bench whose travel covers your number with room both ways. I build benches, and a fixed stand is where a seat with under 2 in of travel lets people down.

Quick pick: the Hydraulic bench (159.99$) is the only one of the seven I compared that covers both zones; see my picks.

What Roland publishes about the FP-30X (and what it leaves out)

Roland’s FP-30X specifications page is thorough about the piano itself. Here are the FP-30X dimensions it gives you, checked in October 2026, plus the two lines it leaves blank.

FP-30X specRoland figure
Body, music rest off (W x D x H)1,300 x 284 x 151 mm
Weight with music rest14.8 kg (32 lb 11 oz)
With KSC-70 stand and music rest1,300 x 344 x 931 mm
Weight with KSC-70, KPD-70 and music rest23.0 kg (50 lb 12 oz)

The 931 mm figure is 36.7 in to the top of the music rest, not to the keys. Roland publishes no height at all for the KSC-70 itself.

How to measure your FP-30X key height in one minute

You need a tape measure and the stand you’ll play on.

  1. Run the tape from the floor to the top of a white key, at its front edge. Leave the key up.
  2. Measure two keys: middle C and one near the end of the keyboard. On an uneven floor they won’t match; use the middle C number, since that’s where you sit.
  3. Write the number down in inches before you shop.

For a sanity check, one owner measured 73.3 cm (28.9 in) to the key tops of an FP-30 on the same KSC-70 stand; another owner review reports 28.5 in.

Write down: key top ______ in

KSC-70, X-stand, Z-stand or desk: what each does to the key height

KSC-70

Fixed. Roland describes no height adjustment for its dedicated stand, and the KPD-70 three-pedal unit requires it. Owner reports put the key tops near 28.5 to 28.9 in (72.4 to 73.4 cm).

X or Z stand

Roland lists support heights, not key heights: KS-11Z 645-917 mm (25.4-36.1 in), KS-20X 705-1000 mm (27.8-39.4 in), KS-13 641, 709 or 777 mm (25.25, 27.9 or 30.6 in). One FP-30X owner said the bundled X-stand raised the piano to over 31 in. Unlike the KSC-70, these adjust. Before you buy a taller bench, try the stand’s lowest setting and measure the key top again.

Desk or table

Desk heights vary, so measure your key top there the same way and set the bench from that number.

If you’re still weighing stands in general, my guide to choosing a bench for any digital keyboard covers that. For the FP-30X, the chart below puts seven benches against the two zones.

From key height to seat height

Our piano bench height calculator subtracts about 0.135 x your height from the key top, so taller players sit lower relative to the keys. Its presets assume about 73 cm (28.7 in) for an upright and about 72 cm (28.3 in) for a digital on a stand.

Pick the preset closest to your measured key top, then add or subtract the difference. A KSC-70 reading of 28.5 to 28.9 in sits within about 0.2 in of the 28.7 in upright preset, even though the FP-30X is a digital. Keys at 31 in sit 2.3 in above that preset, so add 2.3 in to the result. Check your number there, then come back to the range chart.

Worked example

  • A 5’7″ player at a 28.7 in key top (KSC-70): seat about 19.7 in.
  • The same player if the keys measure 31 in: seat about 22 in.

Once you’re seated, run the right height and posture checks before you trust any number, mine included.

Bundle bench, Roland bench or an adjustable bench?

Partly means the bench fits some players in that zone, not all of them.

Fit by height range only. Benchoom is not affiliated with Roland.

  • Gator Rok-It: covers most of the KSC-70 zone, players roughly 5’2″ to 6’0″. By this math it reaches none of the zone if your keys sit at 31 in.
  • RPB-100BK: too high for every adult from 5’0″ to 6’4″ on the KSC-70 by this math, about 1 to 3.6 in above the zone. At a 31 in key top it fits about a 5’8″ player.
  • RPB-300BK: misses only the top 0.1 in of the 31 in zone. On the KSC-70 it can’t drop low enough for the tallest players.
  • RPB-200PE: if you’ll only ever play at the KSC-70, it covers that zone. It tops out at 21.85 in. Roland also lists an RPB-500PE at 19.29-23.23 in, which covers the whole 31 in zone and, on the KSC-70, players up to about 5’8″ to 5’11”.

Which Benchoom bench I’d put at an FP-30X

If you sit at a KSC-70 and your seat number lands between 18.75 and 20.5 in, a roughly $60 Rok-It-type bench will do (Heid Music lists the Rok-It at $59.99).

The extra money buys reach. For 99.99$, the Classic adds about 2 in of travel. The Hydraulic, at 159.99$, gives you 6 in, so it still fits if you move to an X-stand with the keys around 31 in, or a child shares the piano.

Against the RPB-200PE, the Hydraulic reaches about 2 in higher (24 in vs 21.85 in), which matters if your keys sit around 31 in. Its seat is also 27.5 in long vs 21.65 in, almost 6 in longer, though Roland’s is about 1 in deeper (12.99 in vs 12 in).

Black hydraulic height piano bench with a padded seat and side height knob, pianist seated at a grand piano - Benchoom

My main pick: Hydraulic Height Piano Bench

Its 18-24 in travel covers both zones on the chart, and on the KSC-70 it still has over 3 in of lift above the adult zone for a child, who sits higher. Height changes with one twist of the side knob, no tools and no lever to pump, so sharing the bench with a child or a taller player takes seconds.

The seat is 27.5 in long and 12 in deep, with 3.2 in of high-density foam under PU leather, on a steel frame rated for 500 lb. Shipping is free in the US and Canada; you attach the seat with the tools in the box. The warranty runs 1 year, and we stock spare parts for 5.

Adjustable piano bench with back support, black tufted seat and backrest beside a grand piano - Benchoom

Long sessions: Back Support

If you practice 30 minutes or more at a time, the adjustable lumbar back is what you’re paying for. Rated for 300 lb.

It covers the whole 31 in zone. On the KSC-70 its 19.7 in bottom stop suits players up to about 5’5″ to 5’8″ tall, depending on your key top; taller players will find it too high. The seat is 18.5 in wide and 17 in deep, sized for one player rather than a shared seat.

Classic adjustable piano bench in black with a padded seat, in front of an upright piano - Benchoom

On a budget: Classic

Knobs on both sides and a 22 in wide seat. If you’ll stay on the KSC-70 and your seat number sits inside its range, it’s the one I’d start with.

Its 18.5-22.2 in range covers the KSC-70 zone for most adults, up to about 6’2″. If your keys measure 31 in, it only fits players about 5’5″ and taller.

If you can’t decide between a hydraulic seat and a knob mechanism, I laid out the trade-offs in hydraulic vs knob piano benches.

Pedals and bench position at the FP-30X

The FP-30X ships with a DP-2, a simple on/off pedal switch. The optional DP-10 is half-damper compatible, and the KPD-70 three-pedal unit requires the KSC-70 stand.

Whichever pedal you use, set the bench first. Pull it back until your knees clear the keybed, then check that your right foot reaches the damper with your heel down. If it doesn’t, move the DP-2 or DP-10. With the KPD-70 on the KSC-70, move the bench instead.

Roland FP-30X bench FAQ

Does Roland make a bench for the FP-30X?

Roland sells its own RPB benches, from the fixed-height RPB-100BK to adjustable models such as the RPB-200PE and RPB-300BK. None is tied to the FP-30X: its spec page lists stands and pedals, and no bench.

How tall is the Roland FP-30X on the KSC-70 stand?

Roland gives 931 mm (36.7 in) with the KSC-70 and music rest, but that is the top of the music rest. Roland doesn’t publish the key height. Owners of the FP-30, which uses the same KSC-70 stand, report key tops near 28.5 to 28.9 in, so measure yours before you choose a bench.

Is the KSC-70 stand height adjustable?

Roland describes no height adjustment for the KSC-70, so treat it as fixed. On that stand, the bench is the part that adjusts, which is why its travel matters.

What bench comes with a Roland FP-30X bundle?

It depends on the retailer. One US bundle, listed by Heid Music, includes a Gator Rok-It bench, which Heid Music lists at 18.75 to 20.5 in. Check that range against your seat number before you count on it.

Can I play the FP-30X on a desk?

Yes. Measure the key top on your desk as in the steps above, since desk heights vary.

For a Roland FP-30X bench, measure the key top first and check the calculator’s seat number against the chart. On the fixed KSC-70, a narrow bundle bench can work for some players. If you move to an X-stand, share the piano with a child or would rather not measure, you want travel, so my default pick is the Hydraulic.
